A group of Level 300 Development Communication students called Little Voice Big Impact of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC-IJ), in collaboration with the April Foundation, have donated assorted items to the LEKMA Hospital as part of their Resource and Fund Mobilzation class for last semester.
The project, supported by media personality and UniMAC alumni Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, who served as brand ambassador, was aimed at supporting children at the hospital demonstrating the role of communication in addressing social needs and improving lives.
Speaking during the presentation, the students explained that the initiative reflected UniMAC’s practical approach to teaching and learning, which encourages students to apply knowledge acquired in the classroom to real-life situations. They said the project offered them an opportunity to use their Development Communication skills to identify a community need, mobilise support and undertake an intervention that could make a positive difference.
Adding that, nurses and other professionals interested in learning development communication skills should consider programmes offered by the university.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, the Head of Clinical Services at LEKMA Hospital, Dr Folasade Ojo-Benys, expressed appreciation to UniMAC-IJ, the Development Communication students, the April Foundation and all individuals who contributed towards the success of the project.
