According to him, Ghana can learn valuable lessons from countries such as Uganda and Rwanda, where effective waste management systems have contributed to cleaner environments and reduced sanitation challenges.
Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana earlier today, the lawmaker expressed concern over the manner in which waste is handled across the country, stating that improper disposal of refuse continues to worsen the flooding situation.
Honourable Nokoe Kofi Arko also identified illegal mining, popularly known as "Galamsey", as another major factor contributing to flooding in the country. He explained that the destruction of water bodies and the environment through illegal mining activities have increased the risk of flooding in many communities.
The MP further noted that waste management company Zoomlion still has a role to play in addressing the country's sanitation challenges, indicating that the company is not entirely out of Ghana's waste management sector.
He therefore called for a collective effort from government, institutions, and citizens to improve waste disposal practices and protect the environment in order to reduce the occurrence of flooding across the country.
