Former Member of Parliament for Sissala East Constituency and Deputy Regional Minister, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, has called on the government to review the One District, One Factory (1D1F) policy as part of efforts to address unemployment in the country.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana during a discussion on the Northshore Apparel Hub in Savelugu, which was opened by President John Mahama, Mr. Issahaku said government should focus on establishing factories and productive industries in every district to create sustainable jobs.
He argued that instead of investing heavily in markets under the government’s 24-hour economy initiative, the government should consider supporting and improving the 1D1F policy because factories and productive businesses have greater potential to create employment. According to him, markets alone do not generate the level of jobs needed to address the country’s unemployment situation.
Mr. Issahaku further said government cannot create all the jobs by itself and therefore must strengthen the private sector and create an enabling environment for businesses to expand. He said investment in factories, particularly in the districts, would help stimulate local economies while providing employment opportunities for young people.
