The intervention is intended to address years of unreliable access to safe drinking water while promoting peace and cooperation among communities along the Ghana-Burkina Faso border.
Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Major General Emmanuel Kotia, said improving the welfare of border communities is critical to maintaining lasting peace and security. He said investments in basic social infrastructure, such as potable water, contribute significantly to regional integration and stability.
Speaking on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive for Kassena Nankana West, Steven Akurugu, urged residents of Ghana and Burkina Faso to preserve their long-standing relationship and continue promoting peaceful coexistence.
The Governor of Burkina Faso’s Nahouri Region also called for stronger collaboration between the two neighbouring countries through increased community engagement and cross-border development initiatives.
The African Border Day celebration also featured a free medical outreach for residents and a friendly football match to encourage social integration, with Paga emerging winners of the Border Cup.
The Ghana Boundary Commission said the mechanised boreholes form part of its broader efforts to improve living conditions in border communities and strengthen peace, security and cooperation along Ghana’s international boundaries.
