Mr. Nsiah noted that Electrochems operations demonstrate the enormous potential of Ghana's salt industry, adding that the sector could become a major contributor to the country's export earnings if supported.

He further stated that investments by private companies with government participation should be supported where they contribute to national development, saying strengthening the salt industry would help diversify the economy, increase export earnings and create sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana, Mr. Nsiah said CEMSE's position was as a result of a tour to Electrochems salt mining operations at the Ada Songor Lagoon to assess the company's activities and the potential of the salt industry.

According to him, "the project currently serves about 14,000 users and is expected to create more than 4,000 direct jobs and over 12,000 indirect jobs".

Adding that salt production is a sustainable industry because it depends mainly on sunlight and seawater rather than minerals such as lithium, whose extraction can have adverse environmental effects.

Mr. Nsiah also called on the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and other state agencies responsible for regulating the industry to develop clear policy guidelines to support investment and expand Ghana's salt exports.

Finally, he believes that the investments by private companies with government participation should be supported where they contribute to national development, saying strengthening the salt industry would help diversify the economy, increase export earnings and create sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
